What is EMDR Therapy?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a powerful evidence-based mental health treatment that has proven effective for those who have had traumatic or negative experiences which create distress and negative beliefs that impact our view of ourselves or the world around us. It has been successful for a range of other issues including anxiety, depression, eating disorders, substance abuse and chronic pain. EMDR therapy is a respecter of persons and does not require a verbal description or details of the distressing events. Through EMDR the brain functioning interrupted by the nervous system in response to disturbing events are reviewed and reprocessed in a supportive environment that allows a cognitive shift.
